Several trees will soon be removed in different areas of Aytré. These interventions aim to address dead trees, those with sanitary or mechanical weaknesses, or facing environmental constraints.
To inform residents about these decisions, the Town is organizing a public information meeting on Wednesday, October 14th at 6 PM in the Gaston-Balande hall (Hôtel de Ville). This meeting will explain the reasons for the removals, the choices made, and the planned planting and greening measures, while reiterating the Town's commitment to preserving and developing trees in public spaces, balancing safety and resident well-being.
Regular monitoring of trees allows for intervention when their dead or weakened state risks causing them to fall. The priority is to preserve trees as long as they pose no risk. When removal is necessary, the Town seeks, where possible, an appropriate replacement solution.
In Parc Lebon, a dead standing tree, affected by a fungus, will be quickly removed to prevent it from tipping over. New planting is planned for Autumn 2027.
On Rue Évariste-Poitevin and Rue Amedeo-Modigliani, a maple tree dead for over three years will be removed due to a fall risk reported by residents. The site does not allow for new planting.
An impasse at 30 rue d’Yves will see the removal of a bay laurel tree whose growth now obstructs residents' access to their plot. No new planting is planned at this location.
Near Rue de la Gare and the Saint-Étienne church, three ash trees showing significant physiological weaknesses, potentially linked to nearby construction work and the presence of the emerald ash borer, will be removed to prevent branch falls. Three new trees are proposed for this area.
On Avenue Edmond-Grasset, a declining maple tree with dead branches, located near a busy bus stop, will be removed for safety reasons. No new planting is planned at this location at this time.
These interventions are part of a tree heritage management strategy that aims to balance safety, tree health, adaptation to urban conditions, and vegetation maintenance. The choice of location, species, and development conditions is crucial for the long-term success of new plantings.
