Since October 22, 2026, residents and visitors to Île de Ré can deposit their food scraps at dedicated voluntary drop-off points located at the entrance of four recycling centers.

In addition to individual and collective composting, the Île de Ré Community of Communes has established specific collection points for organic waste. These facilities are located at the entrance of the recycling centers in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, Loix, Ars-en-Ré, and Les Portes-en-Ré.
These voluntary drop-off points (PAV) are freely accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. They aim to provide a convenient solution for residents of small homes without outdoor space for composting, those living far from a shared composting site, or visitors to the island wishing to dispose of their organic waste before leaving.
Located in the north of the island, where collective composting sites are less numerous, these PAVs are integrated alongside existing drop-off points for glass, household waste, and packaging, to optimize travel.
The collected organic waste will be transferred to the composting unit of the La Rochelle Agglomeration Community in Périgny. The resulting compost will be used locally and sold to farmers and individuals.
Sorting organic waste is presented as a major issue, particularly to prevent this waste, largely composed of water, from ending up incinerated with household refuse.
