The Intercommunal Community of Île d'Oléron has distributed 168 bicycle lighting kits to 6th-grade students from the island's two middle schools, thereby enhancing road safety.

As part of its annual road safety campaign « Cyclists, shine like a lighthouse in the night », the Intercommunal Community of Île d'Oléron has gifted a bicycle lighting kit to all 6th-grade students at the island's two middle schools: Collège Pertuis d’Antioche and Collège Aliénor d’Aquitaine. These kits, comprising a front light, a rear light, and a charging cable, aim to emphasize the importance of mandatory equipment for safe cycling.
Christophe Sueur, vice-president in charge of transport and mobility, highlighted the initiative's goal: « By distributing these lighting kits, we remind young cyclists that a lighting kit is mandatory equipment: it is an essential awareness effort to improve our children's safety by allowing them to see and be seen on our cycle paths ».
The operation, with a total cost of €4500, is part of a broader effort to increase student awareness of safe daily cycling. The Île d'Oléron is particularly well-suited for this mode of transport, with most residents reaching schools in under 15 minutes by bike.
