Despite the end of the summer season, the drought situation continues in the Charente-Maritime department. Restrictions on tap water usage, established by a prefectural decree on July 18, 2026, are therefore being maintained.
During the monitoring committee meeting held on September 17, the prefecture confirmed that the water situation remains very strained. The Charente river is currently in crisis, underground water tables continue to drop, and no significant improvement is expected in the short term.
This is no longer an issue of a summer peak, but of a drought that is becoming long-term. Everyone's mobilization remains essential to preserve water resources.
