The interactive virtual reality documentary Nowhere to Belong, developed by Lorenzo Carly during his participation in the XR CREATIVE residency last July in Angoulême, has just received writing support from the CNC's Immersive Creation Aid Fund.

This financial support is valuable for the continued development of this work, which blends documentary narrative, memory, and immersive innovation. Nowhere to Belong is presented as an interactive VR documentary investigation aiming to explore the invisible aspect of the war in Ukraine, the process of de-Russification, and to highlight the daily struggle of Ukrainians for the survival of their identity.
The project follows Yuliia, a Ukrainian photographer based in Paris, who returns to Odesa. Her story is reconstructed through the places and objects of her memory.
As a reminder, Lorenzo Carly was part of the XR CREATIVE residency, organized by Magelis and Cnam-Enjmin. This residency took place from July 6 to 24, 2026, and also hosted Raphaëlle Brissette with Feu bleu, Jérôme Blanquet with L’accordeur d’âme, and Rémi Sagot-Duvauroux with Le rêve de l’automate.
