The exhibition originated from a correspondence that began in 2016 between artist Valentine Cuny-Le Callet and Renaldo McGirth, an inmate on death row in Florida. This friendship, nurtured through letters and meetings, led to the publication of "Le Monde dans 5 m²" (2020) and the graphic novel "Perpendiculaire au soleil" (2022), which received the Prix BD Fnac France Inter 2023.
Through text and drawing, the exhibition explores daily life on death row by intertwining the trajectories of the artist and the inmate. The artworks created by Renaldo McGirth are an integral part of this artistic dialogue. The exhibition features original drawings, prints, and wood engraving matrices, offering insight into the creative process behind the book's pages.
A meeting with artist Valentine Cuny-Le Callet is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, at the media library at 6 PM, followed by an opening reception at 7 PM. The evening will continue at 8:30 PM at the CGR in Périgueux with a screening of "The Third Murder" by Hirokazu Kore-eda, in the presence of the artist and in partnership with Ciné-Cinéma.
