The Scientific Society on Addictions (SodAdd), a new French scientific entity, was established this year. It brings together researchers from various disciplines to address the complex phenomenon of addiction.
Serge Ahmed, an CNRS researcher at INCIA and head of the CANDY team, holds the position of vice-president responsible for preclinical research and neuroscience within this new society.
Composed exclusively of researchers, SodAdd adopts a multidisciplinary approach covering social sciences and humanities (SSH), epidemiology, pharmacology, neurobiology, psychology, and public health. Its scope is limited to the scientific field, excluding the structuring of care and services.
SodAdd's main missions include contributing to the national structuring of scientific research on addictions, promoting the allocation of research funding, and guiding policymakers and public stakeholders for evidence-based actions. It also aims to communicate about addictions to the press and the general public, and to promote prevention and treatment.
All research personnel working in the field of addictions are invited to become members. The SodAdd website will be launched soon.
