Recognizing the social isolation affecting many seniors, the City of Agen has created an innovative program called "Ninaa". The goal is to provide a more structured and effective response for the oldest and most vulnerable Agen residents.
To achieve this, the municipality has established a territorial cooperation network involving various volunteer partners: local authorities, social security administrations, medico-social establishments and services, social housing providers, home care operators, and associations. All Agen citizens are also invited to report individuals at risk of social isolation and participate in suggested actions.
Anyone who knows an isolated senior or is experiencing profound loneliness themselves is invited to contact the CCAS of Agen at 05 53 66 12 56.
In Agen, over 7,900 people are aged 60 and over. Of these, 50% live alone, a significantly higher figure than the national average (30%). Furthermore, more than 1,400 seniors in Agen live below the poverty line, with a median standard of living lower than comparable territories.
The risk of social isolation particularly increases after the age of 75, when single individuals become the majority, and especially after 80 with the onset of loss of autonomy.
