The Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departmental Council held a review meeting on September 24, 2026, for the "100% Béarnais Meal Challenge," an initiative to promote local products in collective catering.

The initiative, supported by the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departmental Council, the Pays de Béarn, and producer representatives, aimed to challenge collective catering facilities. They were tasked with creating meals using a maximum of products from Béarn, thereby highlighting local expertise, agricultural sectors, and the region's riches.
Following an initial experiment in 2025, the 2026 edition saw increased participation with 26 establishments involved: nurseries, schools, middle schools, high schools, EHPADs, medico-social establishments, and company restaurants. In total, over 6,000 meals were served, with up to 16 local producers involved per establishment.
This meeting provided a platform to share experiences, successes, and encountered difficulties. The primary goal was to collectively consider ways to durably strengthen the links between local agriculture and collective catering.
The Chambre d’agriculture des Pyrénées-Atlantiques (Chamber of Agriculture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques), a partner in this initiative, contributed to the discussions, thereby supporting the momentum towards more local food and the recognition of farmers' work.
This collaboration exemplifies the power of collective action to produce locally, support regional sectors, and showcase Béarn through its cuisine.
