As part of their module "Relationship-communication with people and their environment," twelve students from Oloron IFAS participated in an enriching initiative at EHPAD Âge d'Or and USLD. This experience aimed to create moments of exchange with residents while putting into practice the skills learned for the nursing assistant profession.
Six students worked with residents at EHPAD Âge d'Or on an apple tart preparation workshop. Gathered in the main hall, residents and students prepared the fruit together in a friendly atmosphere, sparking numerous discussions and reminiscences. One resident emotionally shared: "The last time I peeled anything was potatoes in the army." A compote was also prepared for those requiring pureed food.
Meanwhile, in USLD, the other six students offered a sensory workshop based on touch. Participants had to identify different objects placed in a closed box using only their sense of touch, promoting stimulation, concentration, and interaction.
The care teams noted the observed benefits. One caregiver was particularly touched by "the calming effect the apple slices had on a resident whose attention is usually scattered." This action, conducted as part of the "Relationship-communication" module, highlights the importance of the relational dimension in training future nursing assistants and demonstrates the valuable partnership between Oloron IFAS, EHPAD Âge d'Or, and USLD.
