Since the week of September 22, 2026, the Route de la Marcotte in Ger features a new road marking, the 'chaucidou', intended to enhance safety for all road users.

A new road layout, known as "chaucidou", has been implemented on the Route de la Marcotte in Ger since the week of September 22, 2026. This marking extends from the intersection with the Chemin de Peninat to the exit of Ger, near the rugby stadium.
The primary objective of this setup is to increase the safety of cyclists, pedestrians, and all road users. It aims to encourage motorists to slow down and yield priority to users of the side lanes.
The chaucidou operates on several principles: a central bidirectional lane for motorized vehicles and two wide side lanes for cyclists. When no other users are present, cars drive in the middle of the road. In case of oncoming traffic, motorists can use the side lanes but must imperatively give way to cyclists if any are present.
Cyclists have absolute priority. If a car needs to pass another vehicle coming from the opposite direction while a cyclist is on the side lane, the car must slow down and move behind the cyclist until the lane is clear.
The speed limit throughout the municipality of Ger, including on the chaucidou, is set at 50 km/hour.
