The urban cleanliness service of Oloron-Sainte-Marie, comprising 10 versatile agents, carries out essential tasks such as mechanical sweeping, mowing, weeding, garbage collection, and trimming. To perform these duties, the service is equipped with suitable tools, including portable equipment and larger machines like street sweepers.
The new road sweeper, model RAVO R5 with a 5m3 capacity, replaces an older vehicle after more than ten years of service. This €240,000 investment brings significant improvements over the previous version, particularly in safety with a warning flash, easier access to maintenance parts, and a larger capacity. The machine's thermal engine is designed to operate 40 hours per week.
The municipal team received training from the distributor on operating the new equipment, its maintenance, and mechanics. An additional week of training is scheduled in six months specifically for the town's two mechanics.
The sweepers operate daily, with one agent working from 6 AM and another until 5 PM. The sweeping task requires a one-hour stop before the end of the agent's shift for vehicle emptying and cleaning. The urban cleanliness team particularly focuses on emptying public bins on Mondays and Fridays, while the rest of the week is dedicated to other maintenance tasks.
The service also adjusts its operations to the event calendar. Recently, the Sainte-Marie district received special attention in preparation for the Saint-Grat festivities. It takes approximately two months for the teams to complete a full city tour of sidewalk and curb cleaning before starting the cycle again.
The town hall also reminds residents that maintaining the areas around their homes is their responsibility.
