The public consultation 'Oléron 2035' generated significant interest on the island, collecting diverse contributions that outline future priorities.

The first week of the « Oléron 2035 » public consultation was marked by strong enthusiasm. An ambitious communication strategy, including inserts, articles, radio spots, posters, newsletters, and mailings, reached a wide audience. The Communauté de Communes de l’île d’Oléron benefited from the commitment of the municipalities and its institutional and associative partners. Concurrently, a questionnaire for elected officials and technicians, along with in-depth interviews with officials conducted by the research firm Politeia Conseil, allowed for a thorough analysis of the territory to draft the roadmap Oléron 2035, acte2.
The participants reflect the island's diversity: six out of ten are over 60 and reside year-round, with significant participation from second-home owners. All eight municipalities were represented, bringing together long-time residents and newcomers. The responses have helped identify the territory's strengths and weaknesses.
Three major priorities emerged from the contributions: health and access to care, identified as the primary daily difficulty by 64% of participants, requiring enhanced coordination island-wide; preservation of water resources (60% of ecological transition priorities), a crucial issue given the threefold increase in summer consumption; and coastline protection (70% of expectations), in the face of climate change, calling for proactive adaptation to erosion and marine submersion.
Issues such as year-round housing, mobility, climate change adaptation, and local food circuits are also among the main concerns.
The collected responses, combined with the work carried out with elected officials, will form the basis for future decisions. These insights were central to the first mandate launch seminar, held on October 5th. The « Oléron 2035 » roadmap will continue to be developed in the coming months, with a second working seminar scheduled for January and an approval target in the community council in April 2027.
