The Cut-Back festival, established in 2012, is a key cultural event by the Communauté de communes de l’île d’Oléron, focusing on youth and creativity. It includes screenings, workshops, and awards to engage young audiences.
This year's edition will screen 20 short films entirely made by young people from the region at the Citadelle du Château-d’Oléron. Actress, author, and director Laurie Bordesoules, known for her roles in Plus belle la vie and Alceste à bicyclette, will serve as the event's patron and will lead a masterclass on her career.
Jim ROUMEGOUS from the Communauté de Communes de l’île d’Oléron highlighted the festival's significance: 'The Cut Back Festival embodies the commitment of the Communauté de Communes of the Île d'Oléron to culture and youth. By providing a platform for young talent and bringing generations together around the 7th art, we reaffirm our conviction: cinema is a vector for social connection, education, and shared dreams. See you on October 17th for a day where every voice counts!'
Free workshops, requiring registration, will be offered to participants. These include creating films from video games (Table MashUp), animation cinema, fight choreography, makeup and special effects, retro gaming, and film poster design. These activities are conducted in partnership with the Passeurs d’Images program.
The festival's closing ceremony will feature the presentation of three trophies designed by C.Cécile & Ses Vinyles: the professional jury prize chaired by Laurie Bordesoules, the youth jury prize chaired by Isabelle Raviat (community councilor), and the audience's favorite prize, awarded via QR code voting.
The detailed program for October 17th includes the festival opening and first screening at 10:30 AM, a second screening at 1:30 PM, cinema career workshops at 3:15 PM, a testimonial from Axel MONTEIRO (equipment manager at a media producer and distributor with ERIP) at 3:30 PM, a testimonial from Romain VALETTE with ERIP at 5:30 PM, followed by a buffet, awards ceremony, and closing from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
