The Public Land Establishment of Nouvelle-Aquitaine (EPFNA) is undertaking a hydromorphological restoration project at the Saint-Florent weir in La Rochefoucauld-en-Angoumois. The objective is to restore the ecological continuity of the Tardoire river, whose flow is currently altered by this masonry structure spanning approximately 668 meters, posing an obstacle to fish populations.
This project, supported by the Community of Communes following a resolution on June 17, 2026, aligns with European directives, including the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Flood Risk Prevention Plan (PPRI). The work will involve creating breaches in the existing spillway for partial demolition, shaping central and bank islets using natural materials to promote biodiversity, and installing granular thresholds.
These interventions are scheduled for a duration of two months, commencing on October 5th, and will take place during the low-flow period. Strict measures for aquatic environment protection will be implemented, including sediment management and a ban on hydrocarbon storage on site. Temporary access paths will be established to minimize the impact of machinery on residents, followed by a complete restoration of the surrounding areas.
