Already awarded the 'My City Joins Forces' label with 2 ribbons, the municipality of Gond-Pontouvre takes a new step by signing the convention with the Departmental Committee of Charente. This initiative aims to integrate health prevention and promotion into its municipal policies.
The 'My City Joins Forces' label, awarded for two years, recognizes the municipality's efforts in cancer prevention. Health is now a cross-cutting issue in municipal action, considering determinants such as environment, diet, physical activity, and mobility to reduce health inequalities.
This ambition is based on a comprehensive approach: prevent, protect, and support. Actions are being taken to limit exposure to harmful substances, including endocrine disruptors. The label serves as a tool to structure this health and prevention policy.
The national committee commended actions promoting physical activity, highlighting the 'Active and Sporty City' label obtained in 2024 and initiatives for active mobility, such as cycling infrastructure and shared electric bikes with GrandAngoulême.
In collaboration with the Departmental Committee of Charente of the League Against Cancer, an action plan has been developed to amplify this momentum. It focuses on four key areas: regulation, awareness, health-promoting urban planning, and access to prevention.
Planned measures cover collective catering, schools, public spaces, transportation, municipal events, and staff working conditions. Some actions are already underway, while others will be gradually implemented.
Through this plan, Gond-Pontouvre aims to permanently embed health into its practices and decisions, making prevention a shared responsibility for a healthier living environment for all its residents.
