This distinction, presented on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, acknowledges the municipality's efforts in combating preventable cancers, such as those related to tobacco, alcohol, sedentary lifestyles, and poor diet. The labeling recognizes several concrete actions already implemented, including the development of Smoke-Free Spaces and the establishment of a territorial plan to combat tobacco and alcohol use among young people, as well as the promotion of balanced nutrition in school restaurants.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Benoit Miège-Declercq, Mayor of Saint-Yrieix-sur-Charente, Ms. Julie Thabaut, Municipal Councilor for Health and Prevention, Dr. Jean-Pierre Dupuychaffray, President of the Charente branch of the League Against Cancer, and Ms. Marie-Pierre Dubois, administrative manager of the Charente committee.
This label is the result of collective work involving municipal services and numerous partners. It will serve as a roadmap for future municipal orientations in public health and prevention. The municipality aims to continue this momentum in 2027, seeking a higher level of labeling through new actions focused on preventing avoidable cancers, such as breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer, as well as through training for staff and elected officials and improved dissemination of health information to the public.
