The Grand Guéret Agglomeration Community launched the diversion works for the Chers stream this week. This hydraulic structure, which has flowed underground through the town for decades, will be relocated to make way for the future Aquatic Centre.
This intervention is necessary because the stream's current path runs beneath the planned site for the new building. The project aims to move the structure to a new course, maintaining its function while freeing up the space required for the aquatic centre's construction.
The project involves creating approximately 120 linear meters of new network. The existing circular collector of Ø1400mm will be replaced by a concrete culvert (dalot) measuring 1.50 m wide and 1.00 m high. The new network will be fully constructed before any work begins on the existing structure to ensure hydraulic continuity.
The works, expected to last until early November, include several phases: site installation, construction of the new network with concrete culvert placement, connection structures, and finally, water diversion and completion, including site cleanup and restoration.
Hydraulic continuity will be maintained throughout the construction period. The new network will be completed before the old one is decommissioned. Water flow will be diverted to the new system at the end of the project using temporary coffer dams. Particular attention will be paid to managing rainfall, as the Chers stream also collects runoff from surrounding roads and drains.
