The municipality of Saint-Maixent-l’École now has a new waste collection point located on Rue Jean Jaurès. The installation was marked by the presence of local elected officials, including Chantal Ardoin and Dominique Annonier, as well as representatives from the Syndicat Mixte à la Carte (SMC), Géraldine Girard and Marina Chapelle, on Monday, September 19, 2026. They informed residents about the operation of the new system.
This new point is equipped with bin shelters allowing registered SMC users to separately deposit food waste, packaging and paper, and household waste.
This initiative addresses several objectives: providing a sorting solution for organic waste for individuals unable to have a personal composter, enabling households without individual bins to sort their recyclable packaging, and improving public space cleanliness by reducing illegal dumping of trash bags.
Residents wishing to use these facilities are invited to contact the SMC to activate their access card. Another collection point will be deployed soon, involving a needs assessment and information phase for the households concerned.
The funding for these bin shelters is provided by CITEO for packaging and paper, and by the fonds vert (ADEME / State) for organic waste, as part of project calls.
