The City of Périgueux has committed to rigor, transparency, and responsibility in managing its finances. To uphold this promise, the initial conclusions of the retrospective and prospective audit of municipal finances have been unveiled, calling for vigilance from the residents of Périgueux.
The analysis of the financial situation reveals several worrying findings: an increase in debt reducing the community's room for maneuver, a debt repayment period of 6.5 years (higher than comparable cities), a debt per inhabitant of €1348 (29% higher), and a decline in savings that could become negative by 2028 without corrective actions, thus weakening the capacity to finance future investments.
Faced with these findings, the municipality states that its responsibility is not to seek culprits, but to find solutions. The action will be based on a rigorous and responsible method, focusing on analyzing expenses to ensure that "every euro spent will be a useful euro", controlling charges with a goal of sustainable savings of €1.37 million over the mandate (including €800,000 in the first year), and controlling investments, limited to €8 million per year after re-examining projects and seeking funding.
The stated objective is to preserve the quality of public services, regain self-financing capacity, and continue to invest usefully for the future of Périgueux. The municipality reiterates its commitment: rigor in management, transparency in decisions, and responsibility for the future.
