The APEI of Périgueux inaugurated a new ESAT (Établissement et Service d'Aide par le Travail) in Trélissac in September 2025. This new facility replaces the one on rue du Pont, which had been in operation since 1982. The association now welcomes 120 people with mental disabilities, supported by 14 employees.
Although reconstruction was initially considered on the same site, it was moved due to limited space for future expansion. The workers, deeply attached to the commune, wished to remain. The Trélissac town hall then put the APEI in touch with Le Grand Périgueux to find a suitable plot of land. Henri Mazière, president of the APEI, stated that « the land area offered few possibilities for future expansion. »
The new site features a 1416 m² building for work workshops and another of 486 m² housing the restaurant Bistr’Ósea. This project was made possible by the sale of a 11,635 m² plot by Le Grand Périgueux in the Borie Porte business park.
In parallel, Le Grand Périgueux carried out significant road infrastructure work on the allée du Tacot leading to the ESAT, costing €420,000 HT. These improvements include pedestrian pathways and the creation of three bus stops.
Jacques Auzou, President of Le Grand Périgueux, emphasized the importance of this initiative: « Working to ensure that everyone, regardless of their difficulties, finds a dignified and useful place in society is a very noble cause ». The extension of the greenway towards Antonne-et-Trigonant and Escoire, for which a footbridge was installed this summer, will also facilitate safe access to the workplace for many ESAT residents.
Jacques Auzou added that « With the bus stops, cycle paths, pedestrian walkways, and the extension of the greenway, which has unfortunately experienced some delays, ESAT workers will be able to come here safely ».
This new modern and inclusive facility provides workers with a pleasant working environment. Henri Mazière, president of the APEI de Périgueux, reminded them that « You are the reason for this project. Your commitment and professionalism prove that disability does not define a person ».
Éric Fallous, mayor of Trélissac, expressed his joy that the town was chosen for the establishment and congratulated the association for its « essential mission ».
Marjorie Desmoulin and Marina Meynier, ESAT workers, shared their positive experience: « Before, we worked in old, damaged buildings where it was too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Today, we are in a modern, pleasant, comfortable, and bright building. We feel like we are working in another world ».
Dider Couteaud, departmental director of the ARS, highlighted the facility as a « dignified, adapted, safer, and fully inclusive working tool », noting the ARS's participation in its funding.
