The Ministry of Labour and Solidarity unveiled its national plan for employment in the defense industry on September 15. Nine regions play a strategic role, including Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The region accounts for 9% of staff and establishments, ranking 4th behind Île-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and Occitanie, and generates 12% of the national turnover.
Confronted with strong international tensions, the State is investing in its defense industry with a large-scale plan. France Travail has been commissioned to identify skills, training, and territories to achieve 100,000 recruitments by 2030. This plan is based on four axes: anticipating future skills, finely mapping defense jobs (4,879 companies, 49% executives), creating adapted training programs (15,000 POEI oriented towards defense), and making territories the drivers of recruitment.
The Defense Industrial and Technological Base (BITD) represents 220,000 jobs and over 4,879 establishments. France Travail has identified 27 areas of high demand, including 10 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine: Anglet, Angoulême, Bergerac, Bordes, Limoges, Mérignac, Poitiers, Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, Serres-Castet, Tarnos. France Travail's territorial action will aim to connect each establishment with its local agency.
The 4,300 business advisors in priority regions, such as Nouvelle-Aquitaine, will be trained on the specific challenges, professions, and needs of the defense industries. The region specializes in military aeronautics, propulsion systems, ammunition, and lasers. The challenge concerns technicians and skilled workers, with 170,000 sought-after positions.
Skills renewal is crucial, with 70,000 retirements anticipated. The State, with France Travail, is preparing for this need. The average retirement age is estimated at 63.6 years. To attract candidates, the State plans events and the creation of new Industry 360 Employment Hubs.
The Region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine relies on its competitiveness clusters, such as Aerospace Valley, its infrastructure, and its military sites to support the development of its defense industry.
