In September, Nouvelle-Aquitaine took a major step by switching from the regional ROR to the national ROR. Project directors Corinne WLOSIK, ROR Project Director, and Florent LACHAL, Interoperability Project Director, reflect on this transition.
The region was a pioneer in this migration. Preparation began over a year before the scheduled date, with a thorough understanding of the impacts on healthcare facilities. Constant exchanges with facilities, software publishers, and national teams helped identify critical points.
A major challenge involved the automatic feeding of bed availability. Faced with the need to adapt exchange models not based on the same standards, a technical solution was developed: an interoperability gateway using the Confluences engine. This gateway converts existing data flows into the national ROR format, ensuring continuity without facility intervention. This is a temporary solution, pending direct communication between business software and the national ROR.
The switchover day, September 22nd, went smoothly, allowing the shutdown of the regional ROR and the launch of the national ROR under good conditions. A few anomalies, typical for a project of this scale, were quickly identified and resolved through close collaboration between facilities, publishers, and the Agence du Numérique en Santé (ANS).
This large-scale project involved several ESEA teams (projects, infrastructure, development, decision support, interoperability, user support) for several months. Tasks included transferring user accounts, single sign-on via the regional portal, and technical coordination.
The work is not yet complete. Support for facilities continues to help them adapt their data to the new care offering description model. Technically, the goal is to prepare for direct exchanges between business software and the national ROR.
The success of this project relies on anticipation, coordination, team involvement, and dialogue between publishers, facilities, and institutions. Collective mobilization ensured a seamless transition for facilities, with close support at each key moment.
This experience highlights the role of GRADeS ESEA: transforming national developments into concrete, secure, and operational solutions for healthcare stakeholders in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
