The Prefect of Gironde, Sophie Brocas, has decided to raise the vigilance level for forest fire prevention in the department to ORANGE (level 3 out of 5) starting this Thursday, September 24, 2026, until further notice. A RED alert for forest fire risk had been triggered by the Prefecture of Gironde on Tuesday, July 07, 2026, from 12 PM. Based on the Prefecture's guidelines, and to ensure citizen safety, several measures are now in effect.
Cycle paths located in the heart of forest massifs will be closed all day, including the « Vélodyssée » route. Access to Truc Vert beach remains authorized. The use of thermal and electric engines is prohibited between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM. For forestry professionals, engines must be stopped by 1:00 PM for maintenance phases, with an imperative exit from forest areas by 2:00 PM.
The use of fireworks is prohibited. It is also reminded that it is forbidden within forests to burn green waste, smoke, use fire, or practice isolated camping and bivouacking. Enhanced surveillance of the forest massif is provided by the DFCI and firefighters.
