On October 13-14, 2026, the Maison de la Région in Limoges hosted regional days on 'Nature-based Solutions' (NBS), focusing on adapting territories to climate change.

Co-organized by the International Office for Water (OiEau), the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), and the Region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, as part of the European projects NATALIE, Life ARTISAN, and NBRACER, these days brought together elected officials, local authority technicians, associations, businesses, and researchers to discuss NBS tools, methods, and funding for climate change adaptation.
During the plenary introduction, Jérémie Godet, president of the EPTB Vienne, spoke alongside Mathieu Labrousse, regional councilor delegate for Water, Ecological Continuities, Hunting, and Fishing, and an elected official from the City of Limoges. The first day focused on the role of NBS in regional strategies.
On Wednesday, October 14th, a field visit in Saint-Yrieix-sous-Aixe, led by the EPTB Vienne, focused on the removal of a pond built as a river dam, as part of the NATALIE project.
The EPTB Vienne also participated in a workshop on 'How to promote an NBS project: how to communicate and convince effectively to encourage replication? ZOOM on the case of pond removals.' The importance of communication with the general public and water professionals was highlighted.
In the Vienne basin, the high density of water bodies exacerbates evaporation and lowers flow rates. Removing ponds to restore wetlands strengthens the territory's resilience to climate change, as demonstrated by the LIFE Eau&Climat project and Hydrology, Environments, Uses, Climate (HMUC) studies.
