The Prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Sophie Brocas, accompanied by Andréa Brouille, Vice-President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council, Guillaume Guérin, Mayor of Limoges and President of Limoges Métropole, as well as Florent Kunc, Director of SNCF Gares & Connexions stations in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, officially inaugurated on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the completion of the accessibility works on the platforms of the Limoges Bénédictins station.
This operation, carried out from February 2025 to July 2026, transforms the station to make it 100% accessible. The goal is to improve the comfort, safety, and autonomy of all travelers, particularly those with reduced mobility. This achievement materializes the partners' commitment to more inclusive mobility.
Improvements include the raising of the 5 platforms to 55 centimeters to facilitate step-free access to trains, the installation of tactile warning strips, and elevators for the link between the underpass and the platforms. The lighting, sound system, and signage have been modernized for better visibility and audibility. Fences and gates at the ends of the platforms enhance safety. SNCF Gares & Connexions has also renovated the shelters and the waterproofing of the underpass.
In 2025, the station welcomed over 2.5 million visitors, including approximately 2 million travelers. Customer satisfaction is high, with a score of 8.62/10 measured by the satisfaction barometer. The station was awarded the label « Gare remarquable » in September 2026 and received two stars in the Michelin Green Guide.
The total cost of the platform accessibility works amounts to 17.2 million euros, financed by the State (10.35 M€), SNCF Gares & Connexions (4.64 M€), the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region (1.17 M€), Limoges Métropole (725,000 €), and the city of Limoges (362,000 €). The renovation of shelters and underpass waterproofing, costing 7.2 million euros, is entirely financed by SNCF Gares & Connexions.
