The town of Aire sur l’Adour is preparing to renew its Children and Youth Municipal Council (CMEJ). Students in CM1, CM2, 6th, and 5th grades attending the town's schools are invited to participate in this election to become the representatives of the local youth for a two-year term.
The CMEJ provides a platform for young people to get involved in local life, propose ideas, and contribute to the realization of concrete projects for the town. In 2026, a new team of 29 young councilors will be elected for a two-year mandate.
Eligible to vote and stand as candidates are all young people in CM1, CM2, 6th, and 5th grades attending schools in Aire-sur-l’Adour, whether they reside in the commune or not. The schools involved are Victor Lourties primary school, Le Mas primary school, the private school Saint-Joseph, and Gaston Crampe middle school.
The vote will take place on Friday, December 4, 2026, within each school. Before election day, young candidates will have the opportunity to prepare their proposals and conduct an electoral campaign among their peers, thus discovering the principles of citizenship and democratic functioning.
The electoral calendar includes interventions in schools from October 12 to 16, 2026, candidate submissions on November 6, campaign preparation on November 18, and the electoral campaign from November 19 to 27. The results will be announced on December 4 at 6 PM at the Town Hall.
The official installation of the new Children and Youth Municipal Council will take place on December 9, 2026, at 6 PM at the Town Hall, during a plenary session presided over by the Mayor.
Beyond the election, the CMEJ aims to enable young people to voice their opinions, propose ideas, and actively participate in the life of their community, offering a first experience of civic engagement.
