From November 6 to 8, the Iraty hall in Biarritz will host the 21st edition of Lurrama, the fair for peasant and sustainable agriculture. This year, the central theme will be 'Water, a common resource,' a topic chosen even before the heatwave summer that strained water resources and agricultural production.
The organizing association, Euskal Herriko Laborantza Ganbara (EHLG), has scheduled several conferences around this essential resource. On November 6, at 3 PM, a conference titled 'Water and Health, Prevention Rather Than Cure' will address health issues with speakers including Eneko Aldana, vice-president of the Basque Country Community in charge of Drinking Water and Collective Sanitation, and Patrick Bonilla from ARS.
On November 7, Gilles Bœuf, a biologist and oceanographer and the event's patron, will lead the conference 'Water and Food, It's Life' at 11 AM. At 3 PM, another conference will focus on agricultural practices, featuring Hervé Damestoy, vice-president of the Basque Country Community in charge of agriculture, and Régis Gonnet, an arboriculturist and winemaker from Ardèche, this year's guest of honor.
Ardèche, a 'land of character,' will highlight its values for peasant and organic farming, sharing its expertise with local producers, artisans, and chefs.
The fair will also offer a farmer's market, an educational farm with over 80 animals, meals prepared by chefs, educational workshops, and tastings of local products such as Espelette pepper and Basque ciders. Continuous activities will include apple pressing, flour and talo making, as well as concerts.
The fair will be held from November 6 to 8, from 10 AM to 7 PM, with evenings animated until 3 AM (except Sunday at 9 PM). The full program, prices, and practical information are available at lurrama.org.
