The water resource situation continues to deteriorate in the Basque Country. Following the entire territory being placed at the 'Alert' level, the persistence of very dry and hot weather has exacerbated the drought. Eight municipalities are now at the 'Crisis' level for drinking water: Aussurucq, Etchebar, Hasparren, Haux, Lichans-Sunhar, Souraïde, Tardets-Sorholus, and Trois-Villes.
In these municipalities, restrictions on drinking water usage are reinforced. Certain non-essential uses are now prohibited, such as washing cars, topping up swimming pools, watering lawns and flowerbeds, watering sports fields, and cleaning facades, sidewalks, and roofs.
The rest of the Basque Country territory currently remains at the 'Alert' level. However, an extension of the 'Crisis' perimeter is possible in the near future if meteorological conditions do not change.
Consumers are required to strictly adhere to the current restriction measures. To find out the applicable restrictions in your municipality, you can consult the VigiEau website, updated by state services.
