Skipper Jean-Baptiste Daramy, based in Hendaye, benefits from a multi-year partnership with the City of Hendaye and the Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques for his Vendée Globe 2028 preparation, including local and awareness-raising activities.

Skipper Jean-Baptiste Daramy, with 35 years of regatta experience and numerous transatlantic races, has officially launched his preparation for the Vendée Globe 2028. He can now count on the strategic support of the City of Hendaye and the Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, alongside private sponsors. This partnership will span several years, supporting his sporting program while involving local residents and stakeholders in this maritime adventure.
The port of Hendaye will serve as the main base for preparing the 18-meter IMOCA. Daramy's team will have a 400 m² technical area for the boat's wintering, maintenance, and technical preparation, as well as two dedicated containers. Beyond logistics, the skipper is committed to promoting the port, the bay, local nautical activities, and supporting the City's commitments to marine environment preservation and sustainable development.
Jean-Baptiste Daramy, also a composite materials engineer at Compositadour/ESTIA, aims to share his experience. He will participate in municipal events and meet with schoolchildren and local residents. The Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques also supports the project with a social dimension, aiming to introduce children under social welfare to the world of offshore racing and the values of perseverance.
Before the Vendée Globe, the first major milestone will be the Route du Rhum 2026. The start is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026, off the coast of Saint-Malo. Daramy, a two-time participant, aims for a crossing time of 14 days. Intensive preparation is underway, with teamwork and mutual support to ensure a confident start.
The sporting program extends to 2029, including the Transat Café L’Or in 2027 and 2029, the Transat anglaise, and culminating in the Vendée Globe 2028. This long-term partnership will allow the residents of Hendaye to closely follow this human and sporting adventure.
