Once known as Dur-Sharrukin, the "Fortress of Sargon," Khorsabad was chosen by the Assyrian king Sargon II in the 8th century BC to build a new capital. The monumental architecture, palace decorations, and impressive winged bulls testify to the ambition of this ruler, who was a military leader, patron of the arts, and a great builder.
With Amélie Roptin Neyron, this conference aims to explore the history of Sargon II and this city, which has become an emblematic site of Assyrian heritage.
