From October 5, 2026, the Basque Country Agglomeration Community is introducing a door-to-door food waste collection service for collective housing buildings in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, outside the historic center.

This new service targets residents of the most densely populated collective housing buildings in the town. Concerned households have been informed by mail, with an accompanying flyer and sorting guide. A dedicated bin for food waste will be installed near each residence. The installation of this equipment began in September to ensure a smooth start in early October.
To facilitate home sorting, a free bucket has been provided to residents of the affected households during dedicated information sessions.
Food waste, accounting for nearly a quarter of our trash, has been mandatory to sort at the source since January 1, 2024. The Basque Country Agglomeration Community offers several adapted solutions: a free individual composter for houses with gardens (online reservation and collection), a free vermicomposter after an information meeting for apartments with balconies or terraces, and collective composting supported by the master composters of Bil Ta Garbi for residences.
