Surgical activity, which had already seen an increase of over 30% in 2025, continues to improve. Full hospitalization sees its number of stays increase by 3%, while day surgery activity grows by 15% over the year. The shift towards day surgery is particularly pronounced, with a 28% increase compared to 2019. This positive result stems from months of work in 2025 by the operating room-intensive care-anesthesia department, in collaboration with surgical and interventional specialties, as well as management and care teams. The main specialties involved are orthopedics, urology, visceral surgery, and hepato-gastroenterology.
In internal and general medicine, full hospitalization activity increased by 3% compared to 2025, despite months marked by medical and non-medical staffing difficulties. Day hospitalization in this department, with activity up 70% compared to 2019, continues its positive trend in 2026 with 13% more stays than in 2025. Geriatric medicine sees full hospitalization progress by over 9%, surpassing 2019 activity levels.
External procedures across various specialties also show positive growth of 6% compared to 2025, driven by internal medicine, cardiology, hepato-gastroenterology, vascular medicine, orthopedics, urology, and visceral surgery.
The Handimed86 service continues its significant development, with a 43% increase in day hospitalization compared to 2025.
This dynamic is accompanied by structural developments. The site launched a new pediatric surgery activity in February 2026, including dedicated consultations for the Nord-Vienne region. Furthermore, the arrival of a second scanner in 2026 has enhanced imaging capabilities for both emergencies and scheduled care. The site continues its public health commitment, notably within the 'smoke-free health facility' program.
According to Emmanuel Guivarc’h, the site's director, this progress is due to a combination of factors: better coordinated care between the Châtellerault and Poitiers sites, continued investment despite strong budgetary constraints, and sustained attention from departments and management to the development of the Châtellerault site. Prospects for the remainder of the year are positive, with a commitment to consolidating these advances and exploring new projects.
