After 18 months of extensive work, the construction of the Multimodal Exchange Hub (PEM) in Surgères is now complete. This project, the result of two mandates from elected officials, aims to simplify daily travel for 600,000 passengers per year.
The station's redevelopment, launched in 2014, was designed as an open public space, transforming the station into a vibrant, airy, and secure living area. The ambition is to reduce car commutes, better connect the territory to neighboring employment centers, and maintain its economic attractiveness by offering optimal reception conditions befitting a TGV station.
The project considers the needs of users and residents, including preserving the station's rail service, creating a functional and secure space for station/city center connections, and improving pedestrian access safety. It also aims to enhance the town's image through a useful and attractive public development.
Furthermore, the former industrial sites of Armor Protéines and Surfilm Packaging, located near the station, will be demolished in early 2027 to accommodate new facilities and services. From October 19 to November 19, 2026, the Communauté de Communes Aunis Sud is launching a survey titled 'Let's imagine the station hub of tomorrow' to gather user needs for future developments.
