Weakened by old drainage ditches, this peat bog is undergoing a restoration project aimed at rehydrating the peat. The installation of 52 wooden structures during the summer of 2026 is intended to slow down water runoff. This "natural sponge" will thus be able to better retain water during rainfall and release it during dry periods, while also helping to filter water, store carbon, and protect remarkable biodiversity.
Regular monitoring of the water level will be carried out to measure the effectiveness of the developments and observe the effects of climate change on the site.
This pilot project, carried out in collaboration with the Groupement Syndical Forestier du Massif des Agriers, the Office national des forêts, and the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is funded by the Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Adour Garonne water agency. It will sustainably benefit residents and the territory.
