The President of the Department of Dordogne, Germinal Peiro, expressed his deep sadness following the passing of Serge Eymard, former general councilor of Terrasson-Lavilledieu and a staunch defender of humanist and social values.

Serge Eymard, who served as general councilor for the canton of Terrasson-Lavilledieu from 2001 to 2015, as well as former vice-president in charge of Culture and president of Ciné-Passion-en-Perigord, has passed away. Germinal Peiro, President of the Department, pays a strong tribute to him.
In a statement, Germinal Peiro shared his emotion: 'I learned this morning with immense sadness of the passing of my friend Serge Eymard, whom I knew from our boarding school years at the teacher training college in Périgueux. I had the chance and the happiness to share many moments of complicity and political struggle with him. Because Serge was not just a close friend: he was also a militant imbued with the humanist and social values that drive us and were at the heart of his involvement in civic life.'
Recognized as a highly appreciated teacher, Serge Eymard also left his mark on public life as the mayor of La Feuillade from 1986 to 2020. His commitment continued within the Department where he was a remarkable vice-president in charge of Culture. Over the past ten years, he remained very active in the associative world, notably as president of Ciné-Passion-en-Perigord.
Serge Eymard was particularly concerned about the rise of populism and intolerance, firmly believing that culture was the best path for individual and collective fulfillment. Germinal Peiro assured that his work would be continued with vigor and conviction.
Germinal Peiro, on behalf of himself, former colleagues, elected officials, and departmental agents, extended his most sincere condolences to the wife, family, and loved ones of Serge Eymard, expressing his deep friendship.
