A prefectural decision was made on August 27, 2026, to enhance forest fire prevention in Gironde. The department is thus moving to the high alert level Orange, corresponding to level 3 on a scale of 5.
Strict measures are being enforced throughout the department, both day and night. Specifically, it is forbidden to use thermal weeding tools such as blowtorches, to burn green waste in the open air, and to use flying lanterns. Public fireworks are also prohibited, except for those launched from the beach towards the open sea, and outside exposed forest areas.
In areas particularly exposed and dominated by forests, the prohibitions are even stricter. It is forbidden to make open fires, transport fire, and smoke.
