On the occasion of the National Day of Remembrance for the French, the commune of Saint-Seurin-sur-l'Isle, in partnership with the local committee of the "Souvenir Français", proceeded with the inauguration of an "Allée du Souvenir Français". This event took place on November 1st, within the town's cemetery.
This new designation demonstrates the commune's commitment to permanently honoring the memory of the women and men who died for France. It also aims to perpetuate the remembrance of their commitment to the Nation.
During her speech, Anne Berthomé, Mayor of Saint Seurin sur l’Isle, emphasized the crucial importance of passing this memory on to younger generations. She recalled that the duty of remembrance is not merely a tribute to the past but an essential responsibility towards the future. According to her, transmitting the history of those who served France helps to foster civic consciousness in the young and make them appreciate the value of peace, freedom, and fraternity.
Dominique Perrichon, local committee president, for his part, reminded that behind each name engraved in stone lies a unique story, a destiny, a family, and sometimes the ultimate sacrifice made for the freedom of our country. He stressed the importance of preserving the graves of those who died for France, safeguarding places of remembrance, and passing on this heritage to future generations. This daily commitment is often carried out discreetly by volunteers of the "Souvenir Français", flag bearers, and all those who work to maintain this collective memory.
From now on, the "Allée du Souvenir Français" will serve as a constant reminder to every visitor: the memory of these women and men constitutes a shared heritage that it is everyone's responsibility to preserve and transmit.
