Klima Week returns for its 6th edition from October 2nd to 11th, 2026, placing biodiversity at the heart of its concerns. This event, taking place throughout the Basque Country, offers a multitude of activities such as walks, workshops, conferences, exhibitions, and shows, inviting both young and old to discover the richness of life and its essential role for our future.
Beyond the fight against climate change, the collapse of biodiversity represents a major challenge for the balance of life on Earth. The Basque Country Agglomeration Community, its member municipalities, and partners are highlighting this phenomenon under the slogan: 'Biodiversity: An age-old ally, essential for the future of our territory!' Biodiversity encompasses living species, their environments, and their interactions, contributing to our food supply, soil fertility, water and air quality, as well as our health.
Faced with an alarming decline, marked by a 70% loss of flying insects in Europe over twenty years and the threat of extinction facing nearly a million animal and plant species according to IPBES, Klima Week aims to inspire wonder and understanding. Factors contributing to this decline include habitat destruction, pollution, overexploitation of resources, invasive species, and climate disruption.
Nearly 100 events are organized throughout the Basque Country, including botanical walks, site visits, participatory workshops, nature projects, screenings, conferences, exhibitions, and shows. The goal is to enable everyone to observe, exchange, and act for a more resilient territory. The full program is available online.
