The Oloron-Sainte-Marie Municipal Police has recently acquired new equipment, including electric-assist mountain bikes and a speed camera, to strengthen its on-the-ground presence and improve citizen safety.

To foster and enhance proximity with its population, the Municipal Police has adopted mountain biking. Four officers regularly conduct patrols as a "VTT brigade," equipped with the necessary documents to ensure tranquility and note the population's needs.
The latest acquisition is a speed camera, completing the service's equipment. This vehicle speed measurement device serves as a tool for deterrence, prevention, and sanctioning dangerous road behavior.
A prevention period of 1 to 2 months is planned, during which speed limit violations will be noted without fines, although dangerous driving may still result in penalties. The objective is to inform the public about the acquisition of this device. After this period, sanctions will become systematic for speeding offenses.
This speed camera, requested by the public, particularly in neighborhood committees, aims to improve road safety. Previously, municipal police officers sometimes observed clear speeding but lacked the equipment to formally document the infraction. In the first few months of 2026, 6 material and/or bodily injury accidents were recorded in Oloron-Sainte-Marie.
The speed camera can be used throughout the commune, where various speed limits apply: 20, 30, 50, 70, and 80 km/h zones. It cost €6180 including tax.
