From October to May, on the 1st Sunday of each month, Mutxiko dances fill Saint-Jean-de-Luz. These monthly events, celebrating traditional Basque dances and music, take place in various emblematic locations of the city, such as the Halles, neighborhood frontons, Acotz, and Place Louis XIV. Open to all, they bring together regulars and newcomers alike, offering a free and accessible experience for those who wish to dance, watch, listen, or simply try.
The principle of Mutxiko in Saint-Jean-de-Luz is simple: every 1st Sunday of the month, at 11:30 AM, the music starts the circle. No need to be an experienced dancer; seasoned participants are there to guide novices, young and old. Everyone is free to experience the event their own way: dancing, listening to the orchestra, watching the dancers, or taking their first steps.
The monthly change of location and music group brings a unique flavor to each gathering. In October, Mutxiko begins at the Halles, followed by the fronton in the Lac district in November, then Ichaca in December, and back to the Halles in January. In April, the event moves to Acotz, before concluding the season on May 2nd at Place Louis XIV, accompanied by the Rita Mutxiko orchestra.
The schedule for the 2026-2027 season includes events every Sunday at 11:30 AM. These gatherings are free and open to everyone, from beginners to regulars, featuring a different orchestra at each meeting.
