The Île de Ré Community of Communes, in partnership with Plume de carotte editions, launched on September 23, 2026, the second volume in a series dedicated to the island's natural richness throughout the seasons. This publication, titled "Île de Ré – Carnet nature automne", highlights the characteristic biodiversity of the autumn period.
The guide offers surprising discoveries, such as the fact that the water spider (argyronète) builds its own diving equipment, or that the oyster mushroom (pleurote) is a carnivorous fungus. It also explains why the samphire (salicorne) turns a reddish color in autumn, due to the high salt content stored by the plant.
Designed as a naturalist's travel journal, this illustrated guide details the island's fauna and flora. It includes QR codes to listen to nature sounds and GPS coordinates to locate described spots, accompanying walkers on their daily strolls through villages, fields, forests, meadows, marshes, and the coastline.
Each chapter invites readers to explore different natural environments on the island, featuring landscape interpretations, thematic focuses, and portfolios to help identify local wildlife. The book is available in bookstores, tobacco shops, and supermarkets for €14.95.
This publication builds upon fauna and flora inventories conducted since 2014. Initially used for biodiversity protection and management actions, the collected data was then shared with the public through this series of four illustrated books, launched in 2024. The initiative was led by the Community of Communes with support from partners including the Conservatoire du littoral, the Office national des forêts, the Charente-Maritime Department, and the League for the Protection of Birds.
