The Communauté de communes de l'Île d'Oléron (CdC) is adjusting its waste collection service to better meet usage patterns, resident needs, and control costs. These changes follow the positive results achieved since 2019 with the incentive-based fee, which reduced household waste tonnage by 37% and increased packaging and paper waste by 22%.
From January 4, 2027, door-to-door household waste collection will become bi-weekly, following a schedule based on even or odd weeks by sector. During July and August, collection will remain weekly to accommodate the summer influx. The collection of packaging and paper (yellow bin) will continue weekly year-round.
The territory will be divided into 9 collection zones, up from 5, with two distinct sectors for Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron. This reorganization, part of the renewal of the collection contract with Nicollin, aims to optimize routes, reduce the carbon footprint, and decrease the number of trucks on the road. Two new electric collection trucks will be deployed in 2027.
A new option will be offered to secondary residents. Those opting for the 'voluntary drop-off points' (PAV) package will receive a yellow bin for packaging and paper collected at home, while retaining their access card for household waste bins (including 8 openings per quarter). For users on the 'door-to-door' package, modulation is possible: one household waste bin collection can be replaced by two bin openings, once per quarter.
A new collection schedule will be distributed by mail starting in November and available in December at town halls and the community of communes' reception. Professionals will receive their dedicated schedule by the end of the year. For any questions, the toll-free number 0 800 800 909 is available Monday to Friday.
Despite rigorous management and optimizations, service expenses are impacted by recent crises (COVID, war in Ukraine, energy and fuel price surges). The CdC emphasizes the importance of continued efforts to reduce waste and improve sorting quality to control costs, aiming to maintain a fee level at or below that of 2014.
