Since September 2026, the three municipal libraries in La Rochelle – Mireuil, Laleu-La Pallice, and Villeneuve-les-Salines – offer free registration to all residents, along with more flexible borrowing terms.

Access to culture and knowledge is being facilitated in La Rochelle. From now on, residents can register for free at the city's three municipal libraries: the Mireuil library, the Laleu-La Pallice library, and the Villeneuve-les-Salines library. This free access aims to make reading, culture, and the resources offered by the libraries accessible to everyone.
Among the new features this autumn, the number of documents that can be borrowed is now unlimited. The borrowing period has also been extended, allowing documents to be kept for four weeks.
The municipal libraries are presented as places for discovery, meeting, and sharing, open to both children and adults. Throughout the year, they host events, conferences, exhibitions, and screenings. In 2025, these three establishments welcomed over 65,000 users.
