The Jalle de Castelnau watershed, including Avensan, remains on reinforced alert following a prefectural decree on September 30, 2026, due to drought conditions.

By prefectural decree dated September 30, 2026, the watershed of the Jalle de Castelnau, which includes the municipality of Avensan, is maintained at a Reinforced Alert level. This measure has been in effect since July 17, 2026.
To preserve water resources, restrictions are in place. Watering of ornamental gardens, lawns, flowerbeds, and green spaces is prohibited. Only trees and shrubs planted less than three years ago may be watered between 8 PM and 8 AM, twice a week (from Wednesday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday).
For vegetable gardens and non-agricultural greenhouses, watering is prohibited from 8 AM to 8 PM. Filling of private swimming pools is also forbidden, except for topping up or initial filling if construction began before the first restrictions, after consulting the drinking water supplier.
Washing of vehicles by individuals is prohibited, except for sanitary imperatives. Similarly, cleaning of facades, roofs, sidewalks, and other waterproofed surfaces is forbidden, except for sanitary, safety, or work-related reasons. Open-circuit ornamental fountains must not be supplied with water.
In this context of drought, every action counts. The prefecture urges everyone to adopt good practices to conserve water resources. The full prefectural decree and current measures are available on the website of the Préfecture de la Gironde.
