These semi-aquatic mammals can cause significant damage, including to agricultural crops, by weakening riverbanks with their burrows, degrading aquatic environments, and posing health risks to humans, such as leptospirosis. Regulating these species is therefore crucial for ecosystem preservation, bank protection, and public health.
To facilitate this effort, FREDON Nouvelle-Aquitaine provides the necessary equipment to volunteer trappers and manages the removal of captured animals. Each capture is compensated with €3, encouraging citizen participation.
The success of this operation depends on broad mobilization: residents, landowners, and local stakeholders are invited to contact the organizers to contribute to this collective action.
For participation or more information, please contact the Syndicat de rivières du Clain Aval or FREDON Nouvelle-Aquitaine at 07 48 88 10 62.
