Bordeaux Airport is launching the construction of its future central building, a 70 million euro project that is part of a larger 140 million euro transformation program. The goal is to improve passenger comfort and streamline journeys, with full completion scheduled for the end of 2029.

This new building, designed by enia architectes, will house security checks, waiting areas, shops, and baggage delivery. It will feature 3,000 m² for security checks with five control lines, a 5,000 m² central plaza for waiting and retail, and a 4,200 m² baggage delivery area. The spaces are designed to be bright, functional, and adaptable.
The first changes will be visible by summer 2027 with a new facade and ten check-in desks in Hall B. The passenger journey will then evolve in stages until the central building becomes operational at the end of 2029. Ultimately, 70% of services will be located after security checks, compared to 30% today. Work will be carried out while maintaining airport operations, supported by enhanced signage and dedicated information tools.
The project aligns with Bordeaux Airport's decarbonization trajectory, including the use of maritime pine from the Landes de Gascogne, rainwater harvesting, and the installation of 3,000 m² of photovoltaic panels, expected to cover nearly 20% of the building's energy needs. It aims for HQE Sustainable Building certification at the Excellent level.
As a gateway to the region, Bordeaux Airport supports over 8,000 jobs and generates immediate economic benefits, mobilizing up to 300 workers at the peak of construction and awarding contracts to local companies. A tender for future retail and restaurant operators will be launched in the second half of 2027.

"The airport must be seen beyond just holiday flights: it is a vital infrastructure for the entire territory. The airport continues to learn and adapt: this project is a step, neither the beginning of a shift nor a conclusion."
