The Biarritz Aquarium has announced that its two young leopard sharks, born on June 29, 2026, are now visible in the tropical zone after two and a half months of growth behind the scenes.

After approximately twelve months of gestation, the two young sharks, one male and one female, were born in the aquarium's 1,500,000-liter tropical tank. The young sharks, capable of swimming immediately after birth due to the species' ovoviviparity, were then transferred to a quarantine tank.
During this period, aquarist technicians monitored their growth, observed their behavior, and controlled their health, while also adapting their diet. The sharks were familiarized with target training, a learning technique that associates a target with food delivery, facilitating their monitoring and potential veterinary care.

This period of growth and learning behind the scenes now gives way to a new stage: discovering their environment in the visitor trail.

Visitors can now observe the young sharks alongside other tropical fish in the Indo-Pacific zone of the Biarritz Aquarium.
